Explaining Awwal Muharram to Your Kids

If you are thinking about explaining what Awwal Muharram is to your kids, here are some simple explanations for your kids:
Awwal Muharram is the first month of the Islamic New Year. It is also regarded as one of the most blessed month after Ramadan.
Abu Hurairah narrated that :
The Messenger of Allah said: "The most virtuous fasting after the month of Ramadan is Allah's month Al-Muharram."
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ صِيَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ .
It’s an important day because it marks the beginning of a new year for Muslims.
It is also a time for Muslims to commemorate the migration of our Prophet Muhammad SAW from Mecca to Medina.
Muslims are encouraged to perform sunnah practices on the first day of the New Year!
For instance, we are encouraged to fast on certain days throughout the whole month of Muharram.
Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about observing As-Saum (the fast) on the tenth day of Muharram, and he replied, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year."
[Muslim].
وعن أبي قتادة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سئل عن صيام يوم عاشوراء فقال: "يكفر السنة الماضية" ((رواه مسلم)).
If you want more rewards, increase your sunnah prayers and zhikr. Insya-Allah you will be rewarded even more!
It is also encouraged to recite a special du’a on the last day of Zulhijjah, after Asar and another du’a on the first day of Muharram, after Maghrib.
